JORDAN PHELPS SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO PLAY COLLEGIATE TENNIS AT ERSKINE

Jordan Phelps is the first student in King's Ridge history to sign a letter of intent to play collegiate level tennis. Here is an excerpt from Coach Clinton's speech on signing day:

"Jordan represented KR on the Tennis team for five years from middle to high school. In addition, during her time at KR, Jordan also participated on the track team, basketball team and on the cheer team along with other clubs and organizations at KR. Jordan is an "A" student and has been on the Headmaster's List for several years now. Without KR's academic preparation, Jordan may not have been able to be in this position to further her athletic career at the next level playing collegiate tennis.

Her recruiting process began over a year ago with twelve interested colleges of which Jordan narrowed the list down to five (Young Harris, Tusculum, Carson Newman, Newberry, and Erskine). She selected Erskine for its Christian heritage, its academic rigor, and its stellar women's tennis program that has won its conference championship (Conference Carolina's) 11 out of the last 13 years.

Jordan has earned a Top 50 Georgia State USTA ranking. She has qualified for the Georgia State Championship the last three years in a row. Jordan was selected to represent Team Georgia at the USTA Southern Nationals for the last three years.

In addition to Jordan's athletic scholarship, Jordan was awarded the Towers Academic scholarship for academic achievement. Jordan is a current invitee to compete for the Erskine Academic Presidential Scholarship for 2018. She plans to study Sports Management and go on to attend law school after which she aspires to practice sports and entertainment law.

In as much, we would like to recognize Jerry Baskin (Jordan's private Tennis Coach) in attendance for being a mentor to Jordan and for making Jordan the player she is today. Jerry was a recent recipient of the USTA Coaching Legends award along with Nick Bollettieri.  Jerry was also recognized as the US Olympic Committee Coach of the year and is an inductee into the USTA Tennis Hall of Fame.

Jordan's family would like to thank KR, its administrators, educators and coaches….as well as mention that we are proud of Jordan for her accomplishments and congratulate her for this honor bestowed upon her."
